When strong performance isn’t enough

Which of these sounds familiar?

01 / The internal move

“Keep doing what you’re doing.”

Your manager values your work, but you still don’t have clear criteria, a sponsor, or a path to a management role.

02 / The leadership interview

You describe the work. They miss the leadership.

You have meaningful experience, but your résumé and interview stories don’t show the decisions, tradeoffs, and outcomes you owned.

03 / The next decision

More effort. No clearer path.

You’re taking on more responsibility without knowing whether the missing piece is readiness, visibility, sponsorship, or opportunity.

The answer isn’t always better positioning. Sometimes you need stronger evidence, a capability to develop, or a different environment. We examine that before choosing your next move.

Your starting point

The Leadership Readiness Diagnostic

A working session about your situation—not a generic personality quiz. We examine your target role, current evidence, and organizational reality, then build a plan around the most important gap.

  • A diagnosis tied to your evidenceWe separate capability, positioning, sponsorship, and environment issues instead of assuming one explanation fits everyone.
  • A leadership evidence mapIdentify which examples demonstrate judgment and ownership—and where you need to build more proof.
  • A plan for one important conversationPrepare a manager discussion or a leadership interview story around your actual next opportunity.
  • A written 90-day planSpecific actions for the next 30, 60, and 90 days, delivered within three business days of the session.
  • A bounded follow-upOne email Q&A within 14 days of receiving your plan to clarify the recommendations.
1 / Confirm fit

Tell me your next move.

Send a short inquiry. If you prefer, start with a free 15-minute conversation about fit, scope, and questions.

2 / Examine the evidence

Bring your real situation.

Before the paid session, share your target role and general, non-confidential examples of your work.

3 / Put the plan to work

Know what to do next.

Leave with priorities. Receive the written plan and use the follow-up to clarify your next actions.

Make your value visible

Show how you think under responsibility.

Your experience should reveal more than the tasks you completed. It should show what you evaluated, who depended on you, what you owned, and why the outcome mattered.

Illustrative example • Not a client result
Activity alone

“I maintained the project schedule and coordinated weekly updates.”

A reader sees the task. Your judgment and ownership stay hidden.

Leadership evidence

“I identified a milestone risk, evaluated recovery options, and aligned owners on a revised sequence.”

Then explain the decision you personally made and the actual result. Add numbers only when you can substantiate them.

Reframe the meaning of your experience. Keep the facts intact.

How do you improve results through people, systems, and reusable processes—not just your own effort?

E

Executive Judgment

How do you weigh uncertainty, risk, and competing priorities to recommend a sound course of action?

Authority Signaling

Does your communication give others clarity about the situation, your recommendation, and the next decision?

D

Decision Ownership

What outcomes and consequences do you take responsibility for beyond finishing assigned tasks?

Meet Albert

I’ve made the move from program work to people leadership.

My experience spans federal program management and engineering leadership in the defense industry. I’ve worked on complex capability and delivery problems, led technical professionals, and evaluated candidates for my team.

LEAD Shift brings that operating perspective to your career decisions: what you’re trusted to own, how you demonstrate judgment, and how clearly others can see your impact.

My career experience informs this work. It is not a promise of your promotion, hiring outcome, or compensation.

Best fit

Experienced engineers, analysts, project managers, and informal technical leads pursuing their first people-management role through an internal or external move.

Practical enough to use

We connect the framework to a manager conversation, an interview, or a work opportunity where you can build evidence.

Honest about the constraints

A stronger case doesn’t create a vacancy, remove a degree requirement, or guarantee sponsorship. Those factors belong in the plan.

Can you prove leadership beyond your job title?

Use this short worksheet to turn one work example into evidence of scope, judgment, and ownership. It’s a useful first step before a manager conversation or leadership interview.

Two pages. Fillable or printable. A concrete next action.

Five questions. One useful example.

  • What outcome was at stake?
  • What decision or recommendation was yours?
  • Which tradeoff did you evaluate?
  • Who did you align or enable?
  • What changed—and what evidence supports that?

If your answer stays at “I helped” or “I tracked,” identify the specific judgment or ownership. If it wasn’t yours, choose another example or build that experience.

Before you decide

A few useful answers.

Can this help if I’m applying outside my organization?

Yes. We can examine a target management role and the leadership evidence in your résumé and interview stories. The diagnostic identifies priorities; it does not include a complete résumé rewrite or a job-placement service.

How is the free conversation different from the diagnostic?

The free 15-minute conversation checks whether your goal and situation fit this work. The $297 diagnostic includes preparation, a 60-minute working session, a written 90-day plan, and the follow-up described above.

What if my organization has no path for me?

Then the plan should acknowledge that. We examine role availability, requirements, sponsorship, and evidence before recommending whether to build an internal case, explore an external move, or address a specific capability gap.

Is longer-term coaching available?

If you want help implementing the plan, we can discuss a separate 90-day coaching engagement. Scope, schedule, and pricing are agreed before you commit. The diagnostic stands on its own; ongoing coaching is optional.

Can you guarantee a promotion?

No. Promotion and hiring decisions depend on your performance, organizational needs, available roles, and other decision makers. The work focuses on the evidence, communication, and actions you can improve.

What should I share before the session?

Your target role, general career context, and non-confidential work examples. Generalize employer and customer details. Do not share classified, controlled, export-controlled, proprietary, contract-sensitive, or coworker personal information.
